Top Three Immune System Booster Areas To Consider

One of the things that some who practice holistic medicine tell us is that we should consider that the flu is not caused by the “flu bug” but rather by the fact that our immune systems are not strong enough to effectively fight the various virus and bacteria we come in contact with. So one of the best things you can do to protect your family from the flu is to make sure that each family member’s immune system is in as good of shape as possible. There are many ways to do this, but here are the top 3 things to make sure that you are always paying attention to:

First make sure that you are not full of toxins. Our bodies accumulate and hide a great deal of toxins in various ways. It is a good idea to make sure that you are doing what you can well before flu season to detoxify your body. A family fasting program or detoxification program is a great idea on an annual basis.

Second, make sure that you are eating right. If you choose natural organic and whole foods you will find that your body naturally develops a stronger immune system. If you eat a lot of home grown food, you will also benefit from natural immunity to things that you deal with locally. You can learn more about natural organic whole food at the magazine site www.HarvestSource.com. I suggest you go to their blog for a lot of good content, if you don’t mind some of the editor’s political opinions from time to time.

Third investigate and include in your diet supplementation of various natural immune system boosters. You will find that there are a lot of herbs and oils that can help. I have personally found that Echinacea and Oregano Oil to be very helpful. There are lots of other herbs that can help too, so do some investigation and then make these herbs a part of your daily routine.

I would love to hear what you have found to be effective in building a healthy immune system. Leave you comments, recipes and thoughts below.

Another thought about Vinegar

In my last blog entry we talked about the folklore about the four thieves, and their vinegar that helped them to steel from victims of the plague without dying from the disease as so many others were dying. Today I want to just talk about one of the qualities of vinegar that is been proven, and yet many just don’t know about it. Vinegar kills the majority of bacteria and flu type of bugs on contact. See the answer to the WikiAnswers.com question, “Does vinegar kill bacteria?”

“Yes, vinegar DOES kill many bacteria and viruses, including many very dangerous ones that can be in food such as E. Coli O157:H7 (see for example scholarly research that shows this ). It is probably good to use in the kitchen and other places that you may be worried about harsher chemicals like bleach getting into food.

Vinegar can also increase the bacteria-killing power of bleach greatly if you don’t mind using some of both for a spray to use on surfaces (see http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2006-02/asfm-vik021306.php). According to the article a mixture of 1 cup vinegar, 1 cup bleach and 1 gallon water will even kill dangerous bacteria such as anthrax in spore form and kills “virtually anything in 10 to 20 minutes.”

Wow – Vinegar can do a lot more than we realize. Which is why one of the essential and inexpensive things you can do to kill the flu virus in your home and protect your family from the flu is to clean everything with vinegar. I usually have some white vinegar in a spray bottle and spray everything down in the rooms that we touch, and that really will help kill the flu germs that normally help the flu spread from person to person.

The Four Thieves Vinegar – A Flu Prevention Solution?

I’ve recently read the story of the four thieves vinegar. I first heard about it when I was compiling my 2009 Flu Report and read the following in the Herbal Vinegar book by Maggie Oster. She wrote:

“Four Thieves Vinegar – Among all the therapeutic vinegars, Four Thieves Vinegar is legendary. Folklore hold that during one of the plague epidemics in Marseilles, four robbers were able to steal from the dead and dying without themselves succumbing by dousing themselves with this mixture. Recipes vary, but the generally accepted ingredients include the leaves of rosemary, rue, sage, wormwood, and mint plus lavender flowers and camphor gum. Other ingredients sometimes mentioned are calamus root, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and garlic.”

I would like to know what others know about this as an antiviral and antibacterial solution. Let me know in your comments what recipes you have and how you have used this solution. I am told that an essential oil made with these herbs was tested at Weber State University and found to kill 99% of virus and bacteria. I’ve also heard that this four thieves vinegar is a good insect repellent if you are out in the woods.

The four thieves vinegar certainly sounds like it might be something that could help us to prevent the flu, don’t you think?

Colloidal Silver – A Natural Antibiotic

What is colloidal silver?

Wikipedia defines Colloidal silver as “a liquid suspension of microscopic particles of silver. A colloid is technically defined as particles which remain suspended without forming an ionic, or dissolved solution. The broader commercial definition of “colloidal silver” includes products that contain various concentrations of ionic silver, silver colloids, ionic silver compounds or silver proteins in purified water. Colloidal silver with concentrations of 30 parts per million (ppm) or less are typically manufactured using an electrolysis process, whereas colloidal silver with higher concentrations of 50 ppm or more are usually silver compounds that have been bound with a protein.

Currently, colloidal silver is marketed for internal and external use as an alternative medical remedy, though there is no scientific evidence of its effectiveness in vivo for any medical condition.[1] Excessive use can result in argyria, a form of silver toxicity.”

Is colloidal silver a flu remedy? Many claim that colloidal silver is a cure all for just about everything, but the FDA says there are no scientific validity to any claims about the use of colloidal silver as a remedy. It would seem that this is like so many natural remedies that exist today. If the drug companies can’t make money from it, then it must not be safe. In the end, the facts are probably more in the middle. Colloidal silver certainly has shown to be an effective antibiotic used for centuries, but is not an essential mineral and can be over used with negative side effects.

As mentioned earlier, there is documented evidence that excessive use of colloidal silver will result in argyria, a form of silver toxicity. So I certainly would not recommend drinking colloidal silver by the gallon for an excessive period of time. However, it has been proven to be a very effective mild antibiotic that actually supports our own immune system as opposed to the standard drug company antibiotics that kill the good and the bad bacteria, forcing us to be more vulnerable to disease in the future if we do not take care to rebuild our immune system.

I would suggest that you do some more research and learn how colloidal silver can help you live a happier and healthier life, and also help your body combat the flu and the common cold. If you pick up a flu or a cold, I would recommend that you use colloidal silver instead of drugs to help fight the bacteria.

Swine Flu Symptoms

I thought it would be beneficial to answer the questions about this new “swine flu” that has been declared to be a pandemic. The swine flu is not any more dangerous than a standard flu, and seems to have the same type of flu symptoms including:
• fever
• cough
•
sore throat
• runny or stuffy nose
• body aches
• headache
• chills
• fatigue
• Some people also experience diarrhea and vomiting.

Generally it seems that this swine flu lasts about a week and can be treated fine at home. The World Health Organization says it will be difficult to tell the difference between seasonal flu and the swine flu (H1N1). Most people will experience a mild to moderate illness and will be able to manage the swine flu symptoms at home.

It boils down to this, if you have the flu, don’t worry if it is the regular flu or the swine flu, just stay home for a week, and make sure you are looking at the 2 things that you can do to help protect your family. Make your environment unfriendly to the flu, and increase your body’s immune system to help fight the flu. Remember most flu remedies work best if they are used when you suspect you might be fighting something, so don’t wait until you can’t get out of bed to do something about it.
