My Top 3 Sore Throat Remedies

Today I would like to share with you 3 sore throat remedies that I have found to be effective, and also a product that my family discovered that will help with sore throats and much more. I have the blessing of being able to do a lot of talking for a living. So sore throat symptoms that are commonly associated with the flu and various colds certainly are a big problem for me. I’ve tried just about everything and still find that the very best remedies are the natural remedies.
My Number 1 soar throat remedy:
Oregano Oil. I use a product called oregoil that we purchase through www.AzureDelivery.com. This product is a small bottle and you can use the product topically for fungal infections of all sorts, but also internally a few drops under your tongue, or in a water gargle. After you have put the drops in your mouth you will notice some tingling. I have found that the antiviral, antimicrobial, antifungal, antibacterial and antiseptic properties of this wild Mediterranean oil of oregano are the best to help your soar throat to disappear. This sore through remedy isn’t all that popular due to the fact that it isn’t necessarily immediate and it isn’t all that pleasant initially. I love it, however, because it works.
My Number 2 soar throat remedy:
Gargle with salt water. This is something my grandfather always did with a sore throat. In the army in world war II he got a very bad sore throat. The remedy they had him apply was to put salt in water, mix it up and gargle the salty water. This is another remedy that definitely works well. Again, not all that pleasant, but once you’ve gargled a cup of salt water you will notice definite improvement.
My Number 3 soar throat remedy:
Gargle with Apple Cider Vinegar. Not very many people can stand the direct vinegar, but gargle with as strong of a mixture as you can. With this gargle, you can and will benefit from swallowing the mixture when you are done gargling.
I hope these soar throat remedies are helpful to you. Let me know with your comments what you like to do to help a soar throat.

A “Homemade” Flu Remedy – The Tennessee Flu Tonic.

One of the important things that we need to make sure that we talk about is that sometimes the flu happens, and preventing the flu should include helping us to recover as quickly as possible without passing the flu on to everyone else we come in contact with. The sooner we can recover the sooner we can help preven the flu from spreading and protect our family.

Here is a home made recipe for a flu remedy that we use. I have found that this flu remedy works better than most everything else that I have found, but would love to hear about what other flu remedy you have found that has worked for you.

This flu remedy does include alcohol, but so do most of the over the counter cold and flu medicines. If you would like a recipe for a flu remedy without alcohol, I suppose you could try this without the booze. I do believe that the alcohol actually helps accomplish the remedies objective. I don’t know how, I do know from experience, I’ve slept better and had my flu fever go away much faster after taking this terrible tasting flu remedy. On the bright side, I find that the taste of this remedy actually is very much the same as the lemon and honey version of the over the counter Thermaflu product sold in most drug stores.

My brother and his family spent some time in Tennessee and they learned this flu remedy while they were there. This is why I have come to call this flu remedy, the Tennessee Flu Tonic. For those of us in the Natural Organic Whole Foods lifestyle, we know that organic lemons and raw honey are best for us, but if you need this remedy and don’t have the natural organic whole foods ingredients, substitute whatever lemon and honey you can find, it will still be a better remedy than going and buying Thermaflu at the store.

Here is the recipe and directions.

Ingredients:
A shot of Vodka
Half an organic lemon
Raw Honey to taste
and
Hot pure water filled to the brim of the cup.

Directions:

Add the alcohol, (The Tennessee Backwoods Redneck version said moonshine, white lightning is best) (If you can get it “Everclear” is also very effective, so my brother tells me.) Squeeze the half a lemon into the cup, add as much honey as you will need to help with the taste, a few tablespoons works for me. Next you heat up some water and once it is boiling hot I fill the mug up with the hot water. Then I start sipping the tonic just as soon as it is cool enough for me to do so. Once you drink the whole cup, go lay down and go to sleep. I usually sweat a lot at first and then go to sleep. You will wake up feeling much better.

Let me know what you think of this remedy by posting your comments below. I would also love to hear what flu remedies you have found to be effective.

Dedicated to Protecting Your Family from the Flu

Starting today, we would like to share with you how you can protect your family from the flu, and hopefully help those that are concerned about new flu bugs like the swine flu or the bird flu of a few years ago. We will regularly post comments that have tips on keeping your family safe from the flu, improving your indoor air quality, preventing the passing of the flu from one to another in your family and also comments on news stories about flu related events.

Just recently the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the new swine flu to be a worldwide pandemic, but don’t panic because the swine flu is really not deadly. To quote the site that is keeping us all updated on statistics of this H1N1 swine flu from the Center for Disease Control:

“A Pandemic Is Declared On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6 in response to the ongoing global spread of the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus. A Phase 6 designation indicates that a global pandemic is underway.”

Again, don’t give in to panic, because the swine flu, while it is a new flu and is making the rounds pretty effectively, it is not really that dangerous. Nothing like the 1918 influenza pandemic that experts estimate killed between 50-100 million people.

However, there is reason to believe that the 2009 flu season is something we should all take extra precautions to protect your family from the dangers that may arrive if this swine flu mutates into something dangerous. I will talk more about this in future blog entries.

In the mean time, protect your family by being as educated on this subject as you can. Enter your name and e-mail in the form on the right and we will send you regular e-mails with tips on flu safety and news items that might effect us all.
